Ormiston Rivers Academy in Burnham on Crouch have collaborated for the first time with local sailing clubs as part of this year’s Burnham Week. Pupils at the school, which is sponsored by Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), were invited to take part in a competition to design an official polo shirt for members of the public to purchase at the regatta, which takes place this year from Saturday 24th August – Saturday 31st August.
Pupils across the school showed enthusiasm for the competition, with a good quality of the designs received impressing all involved, including Ormiston River’s Head of Design Technology, Mr. Rumary. After a public vote, the winner was Year 11 pupil Shannon O’Mahoney for a design showcasing Burnham Clock Tower – a local feature which has stood tall in the town since 1877.
Shannon’s design will now be made into this year’s official Burnham Week polo shirt and will be available to purchase to the thousands of guests set to visit. Burnham Week, a challenging and friendly regatta for sailing clubs across the East Coast, is set to display the racing skills of fleets from clubs such as the Royal Burnham Yacht Club, Royal Corinthian Yacht Club and Burnham Sailing Club.
