Burnham Week News

The East Coast’s most prestigious and friendly sailing week is ready to go on Saturday 25th August.  The entries are coming in at a healthy rate and, building on an increased number competing in Burnham Week’s 125th anniversary last year, 2018 is looking strong.

New for this year – cruiser racing will take place in two handicap systems. Class One will continue to be IRC but Class Five for cruisers with spinnakers and Class Six, without spinnakers, as well as Class Nine for smaller boats racing in the town will all be NHC (National Handicap for Cruisers). Multihulls have added another race to their schedule, this new race is on the final Saturday.

This year the 707 fleet hold their National Championship over the last four days of Burnham Week and the Squibs continue the celebrations for their 50th anniversary with a full week of regatta sailing for various trophies and bottles of champagne.  The healthy local dayboat fleets – Dragons, RS Elites, Royal Burnham and Royal Corinthian One Designs – will all be out in force. The dinghies – Ospreys, Phantoms, and the Dinghy Handicap Fleet (this is now very popular in Burnham throughout the season) – will be all be racing over the Bank Holiday weekend with separate prizes for the John Torrance Trophy on the Wednesday and the final Trophy Saturday.

To round off the sailing the Clubs and Pubs of Burnham have planned their menus and stocked their cellars ready for a bumper Week. Entries welcome on the website.
